Rourkela is a planned city in Sundergarh district which is famous as Steel City in the state of Odisha and the largest steel plant of the state is located here which is helping a lot in meeting the Country's Steel needs.

Rourkela is progressing very fast in the field of education in the entire state and the country's most famous educational institute NIT is present here.
This institute was established by Shri Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1961.

Rourkela has the world's 4th largest Hockey Stadium, Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, the foundation stone was laid by Naveen Patnaik in September 2021, and it was completed on 5 January 2023.
It has a seating capacity for more than 20,000 people and was included in the Guinness World Records on 24 January 2023.

This steel plant of NTPC present in this city was completed in 1959 and was built with the Steel Authority of Indian Limited and German cooperation.
This Plant Produces Hot Metal 4.5 MTPA (Millions of Tonnes Per Annum), Crude Steel 4.2 MTPA, and Salable Steel 3.9 MTPA
The annual revenue of this plant according to the financial year 2019-2020 is Rs 12,537.94 Crores which is helping a lot in the growth of Sundargarh district and Rourkela City.
