In the year 2000, the Baguio City National High School was chosen as the pilot school for the Special Program in the Arts to help youngsters concentrate on their aspiration by assisting them in their specific fields of interest. Nevertheless, the core academic subjects are still present in order to maintain the holistic learning of the students. Among the 7 specialization in the SPA program of Baguio City National High School, Rondalla is one of the thrilling and challenging performing group composed of more or less 60 students from Grade 7 to Grade 10.

The SPA Rondalla of Baguio City High had been joining National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and was able to qualify up to the National Finals. In 2018, we were able to
garner Second Place in the National level Solo rondalla category and in 2019 the group was awarded honorable mention in the National Finals of the NAMCYA. Members of the group were privileged to pass the audition to qualify in the scholarship program of the Rondalla Music Camp in July 2017. In June 2018, the group was selected by the Celso Espejo Rondalla (CER) to avail of their free Outreach Program. In December 2018, the group was again selected to be part of CER CONVERGENCE 2018 Workshop and Concert at NCCA Building, 633 General Luna Street, Intramuros, Manila. We had also been joining the yearly National Training in Rondalla at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The group is under the tutelage of Ms. Ruth Ellen V. Sagsagap. Her passion for music embraces a magical sound where one can play varieties of genre that fills the air with wonderful music.
