Divers took to the pool to test out a new grid system that they built to help make searching for smaller items easier. Traditional line search patterns aren't as effective when looking for smaller items underwater. We take a page from the archeology field and devised a PVC grid that allows us to search a smaller area more effectively. This may include items like weapons, cell phones, wallets, or other types of evidence.
In this example, the diver performing the search is blindfolded and knows what they are looking for. The 2nd diver is there to assist with moving the grid, but also to place the target object to be found. In this instance, the target is a training handgun. The diver searches each quadrant of the grid before moving onto the next. Depending on the bottom composition, this might be a sweeping or grabbing motion. Once all quadrants are cleared, the entire grid is pivoted on one of the edges. Then the search repeats. This is done until either the area to be searched is completed, or the object is found.
