The History of the Cross Keys House | Union County, South Carolina
Take a journey back in time as I explore the Cross Keys House, a stunning example of Georgian Colonial architecture located in Union County, South Carolina. Built between 1812 and 1814 by Barrum Bobo, this historic home offers a glimpse into early 19th-century Southern life and craftsmanship.
In this video, I briefly cover the history of Union County and share the story of Barrum Bobo, who constructed the home and raised 15 children there with his wife. I also highlight his family background, including his parents, and trace the home’s lineage as it stayed in the Bobo family until 1995. Today, it is preserved and maintained by the Union County Historical Society and Museum.
One especially captivating piece of history: Confederate President Jefferson Davis reportedly stopped at the Cross Keys House for lunch while fleeing Union troops after the Civil War—adding a dramatic chapter to this already remarkable home.
Throughout the video, you’ll also see a variety of photographs I took of the house, both inside and out, showcasing its design, details, and setting.
