Описание: SAVE Wild Cow Prairie Cemetery in Sumter, County Florida - Sadly this historical cemetery is under threat of development. I went out to the location to take some photos and help document this place before it's gone forever. Thank you to the folks working hard to help protect this cemetery I hope this video can help make a difference.

Wild Cow Prairie Cemetery Is now the FIRST historic site in Sumter County to be honored with both a Historical Marker from the Florida Division of Historical Resources AND listed on the National Register of Historical Places! These honors greatly add value to our community. It has been a long journey to reach this moment. The cemetery will now and forever receive the recognition it always deserved as being the last trace of the once bustling town of Pemberton Florida.

"On the outer edge of a wetland known as Wild Cow Prairie sits the Wild Cow Prairie Cemetery. Final resting place of many citizens of the town of Pemberton Ferry. When it was first settled the Wild Cow Prairie was said to be a paradise. It was a lush feeding ground for the wild cows and ponies left by the Spanish. At sunrise and sunset it was covered with pink flamingos, white egrets and thousands of other beautiful birds. It isn’t hard to see why this area was settled. By 1930’s Pemberton Ferry had mostly disappeared. The 1.01 acre town cemetery was vandalized a few times over the years, leading to many unmarked graves. Now the cemetery appears much smaller than it really is, with only about 12 headstones intact. Recently the powers that be in Sumter county have identified the area the cemetery sits on as“Prime for development” Their plan is to move these pioneers from their final resting places so a truck stop or gas station can be built there. It’s time we defend these brave souls, who made a life in the wild, swampy wilderness that was early Florida, because without them where would we be?"
