 Warning! Major spoilers ahead for the Stranger Things series finale.  The Stranger Things series finale wraps up the story of Max (Sadie Sink) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) with a romantic movie theater date, and creators Matt and Ross Duffer now reveal what movie the couple are watching.  Though the focus of Max and Lucas' date scene remains firmly on them and their blossoming romance, the Duffer Brothers explain to Netflix's Tudum that the scene almost showed them watching Ghost (1990), a fantasy romance starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. It was decided, however, that the scene would be more effective if it stayed on Max and Lucas. As the Duffers explain:  The romantic subplot between Max and Lucas has been present in the show since season 3, eventually developing more in season 4 as the two Stranger Things characters age and mature. After Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) puts Max into a coma, however, the relationship hits a roadblock, with much of season 5 featuring the pair in different dimensions.   Max eventually escapes Vecna's mind and wakes up from her coma, but it isn't until after the villain's death in the Stranger Things series finale that her relationship with Lucas finally returns to normal. She not only returns to skateboarding, but the show's final moments feature her deeply invested in a D&D game by Lucas' side.  Though most of the show takes place in the 1980s, the 18-month time jump in the finale finally brings the story into the '90s. Ghost hit theaters in July 1990, meaning the Duffers didn't have to bend the timeline to include it in the show.  Incidentally, Ghost was also a major box office hit, grossing a whopping $505 million worldwide, meaning it was one that plenty of people saw in theaters. If the movie were featured in the show, it wouldn't be the first time the Duffers included a scene of their characters watching a beloved flick from the era, with Back to the Future (1985) memorably incorporated into season 3.
