The arpeggione, now long vanished, was conceived as a six-string instrument tuned identically to the guitar ( EADGBE )and built with a fretboard. In its design and inner logic, it belonged closely to the world of the guitar. The guitar does not merely substitute the lost instrument, but restores its true poetic voice from our fretboard.

Schubert was not a stranger to the guitar. He knew the instrument and lived in a musical culture in which the guitar held an intimate and familiar place. Though the Romantic guitar of his time remained limited in projection and technical development, two centuries have transformed the instrument. Today’s guitar is no longer an instrument of compromise, but one capable of sustaining the poetic ideal that Schubert sought in sound.

오늘날 자취를 감춘 아르페지오네는 기타와 동일한 조율을 지닌 ( EADGBE ) 여섯 줄의 악기로, 프렛이 있는 지판을 갖추고 있었다. 그 구조와 내적 논리는 본질적으로 기타의 세계와 밀접하게 맞닿아 있었다. 기타는 사라진 악기를 단순히 대신하는 것이 아니라, 그 본래의 지판에서만 보여줄 수 있는 시적 음성을 되살린다.

슈베르트는 기타의 세계와 결코 무관한 작곡가가 아니었다. 그는 기타를 연주할 줄 알았으며, 당대 빈의 음악적 삶 속에서 기타는 친밀한 동반악기였다. 슈베르트 시대의 기타는 아직 기술적 제약 속에 머물러 있었으나, 두 세기를 거치며 기타는 음량과 지속, 표현의 깊이에서 새로운 차원에 도달하였다. 오늘날의 기타는 더 이상 타협의 악기가 아니라, 슈베르트가 추구했던 시적 이상을 온전히 울려낼 수 있는 음성이다.
