Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule has announced his readiness to implement a minimum wage of 70000 naira for workers. The state labor union, led by Mr. Ismaila Okoh has rejected the offer focusing instead on the implementation of pending promotions for workers.

In another development, the attention of the Nasarawa State Government has been drawn to an editorial published by an online medium listing Nasarawa as one of the northern states where the protesters hoisted the Russian flag during the recent nationwide protest. In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on public affairs Hon. Peter Ahemba Nasarawa state government has debunked this allegation in its entirety. The claim that protesters hoisted the Russian flag during the recent protest in the state has no iota of truth. The allegation is false, misleading and mischievous. He also said it is on record that the said nationwide protest recorded low turn up in the state, owing to the fact that most of the demands canvassed by the protesters had been substantially met by the government of Governor Abdullahi Sule with support by the Federal Government through palliative schemes.
President Bola Tinubu swore in the new Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack. The swearing in took place at the Council Chamber of the Aso Villa in Abuja today at about 1:00pm before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting. Walson Jack succeeds Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, who served as the substantive Head of Service from March 4, 2020, until August 12, 2024, a day before she attained the retirement age of 60.The swearing-in ceremony comes nearly a month after the President, on July 17, approved her appointment.

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) says 82.36% of the total insured depositors of the defunct Heritage Bank have been reimbursed since the revocation of the bank’s licence by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on June 3, 2024.
In a statement on Sunday, a spokesman for the appointed liquidator NDIC, Bashir Nuhu, said the remaining 17.64% of the insured deposits yet to be paid were largely depositors whose accounts have post no debits (PND) instructions or have no Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).
Nuhu said the NDIC began the payment of the insured deposits of N5m maximum per depositor within a record time of four days of the bank closure using the BVN as a unique identifier to locate depositors’ alternate accounts in other banks.

President Bola Tinubu celebrated the DTigress Coach Rena Wakama for her exploits at the Paris 2024 Olympics games.Wakama who won the best womens coach prize led the Nigerian side to a historic quarter-final outing at the Games before leaving for the United States. In a statement released by the Presidential Spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu said the recognition of the coach by the International Basketball Federation further underscore her well established leadership qualities and dedication to excellence. The President commends the team, the coach, and all those who played a part in the unprecedented feat at the Olympics, enjoining them not to relent or become crestfallen but to remain resilient and determined for greatness. He also profess that winning trophies and medals is the ultimate goal in competitive sports, but nothing trumps the place of good sportsmanship, discipline, and sacrifice shown by all those who held the Nigerian flag at the Olympic Games. The President thanked the Nigerian contingent and wished them success in their respective endeavors.

INTERNATIONAL
The United States has sent a guided missile submarine to the Middle East, as tensions grow in the region. Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin also said an aircraft carrier which was already heading to the area would sail there more quickly. The move comes in response to fears of a wider regional conflict, after the recent assassination of senior Hezbollah and Hamas leaders. It signals the US's determination to help defend Israel from any attack by Iran - with Mr Austin saying the US would "take every possible step" to defend its ally.
