On June 7, 2025, I explored a hidden line of Cold War-era bunkers near the Zvernec Monastery on Albania’s Ionian coast, directly across from Sazan Island.
These four concrete bunkers, carved into the cliffs under the lighthouse, once formed a coastal artillery line. Inside one of them, I found a rare wall map and shell trajectory table – original Albanian military markings likely dating back decades.
Today, the bunkers are quiet, with swallows nesting above their entrances and nature slowly reclaiming the site. From the path, you can walk between them via an underground tunnel stretching about 50 meters.
A unique mix of history, nature, and forgotten military architecture.
