In this video Richard looks at distinct overnight positioning and the next day cash session with high volume. The whole idea of overnight positioning is:

Generally weaker participants - less volume
Less likely to hold position if move doesn’t continue
Directional move away from previous days range
Position taken overnight are waiting for the cash session and higher volume to continue the move
Failure to do so and overnight participants exit whilst cash session traders see the gap as an
overextension and opportunity to play back to previous range
