Why Don’t We Advertise All of Our Treasury Roles?

Hello everyone! Mike Richards from The Treasury Recruitment Company here.
This week we’re talking about recruiting your next Treasurer.
CFO’s say to me “Mike our current Treasurer does a great job but we want to improve, enhance, grow, develop and move on to the next level with this person and the people in the team. Brilliant!
I'm on board, I love this.
But then when I ask them for the job description of this new enhanced Treasurer if you like,
they just lean down to their bottom drawer, grab the current job description for the current Treasurer who is leaving after say 10 years in the job, cross out the date and hand it back to me.
So I say, “look so you just want a carbon copy of what you've just had?”. Now I know that CFOs are under great pressure.
But please just stand back, take a moment to write down what basic skills are required,
what are the growth areas or potential areas to develop, maybe in technology for instance. We know you want an immediate solution, but what's gonna be the runway for the new Treasurer that comes in.
What's their flight path if you like? I often get asked “Do you actually recruit Treasurers Mike?” I’m like, "well yeah why?”
“It's because we don't see that many advertised on your website”. And you're right, you know, they don't get advertised all the time on there.
Why?
Because I'm not allowed to, and it frustrates the heck out of me. The past few years
I've recruited on a confidential basis Treasurers for Renewi a FTSE 250 and Senior PLC.
We're currently engaged on another confidential search with one of our clients but we're not allowed to put their details or names or any of the details of the role on the website.
Why? Internal sensitivities because it's a confidential move, external, shift in the markets or plans are changing and things like that.
Sometimes also clients say they don't want to be inundated with other recruiters.
We can understand that. So we provide a confidential service when recruiting those Treasurers.
