1. Most of the mistakes you may have in your shoe pattern you will see only during lasting of your shoes.
You can blame the bad leather ( although it is possible as well:) you work with, lack of proper heels, or materials, or tools but in most cases, it is your wrong pattern.
Pattern making is the core of shoemaking! Don't forget it!
So, when during lasting of your shoes you have too many folds in the heel area, the reason is a too big pattern that you need to correct.

It is very easy to fix and in this episode, I am explaining how to do so.

2. The second question is about the use of the steel shanks in making shoes.

There are a lot of different opinions but if you want to make proper shoes that will be strong, safe and last for a long time you have excellent advice from me - use it.
