Hi it’s Ty the RE guy with a video for those of you looking to build a home. This video is going to explain how building a new construction home is like having a baby. As a new home construction specialist, I’ve built 5 homes for myself & I’ve personally guided hundreds of people through the new home construction process. I’m also a father of 4 beautiful daughters, but I know that doesn’t make me an expert on pregnancy, that’s my gorgeous wife & the rest of you precious mothers out there. But, I can say with complete confidence, I probably couldn’t handle the pain of child labor. As I just admitted, I’m not a specialist on having babies, so please don’t get offended if I’m slightly off base on any of my comparisons. I’m just havin’ a little fun, while trying to give you a different perspective on the home build process. So, let’s get started.
A good analogy can really help people understand difficult concepts. So, I often tell people as they’re preparing to start the home build process that building a home is like having a baby & here’s why…
#1 Both take a lot of planning before starting the process. Most people understand the magnitude of these decisions. Because building a home & having a baby are both life altering choices, most people will spend hours researching, so they know what they’re getting into before they decide to go for it. Those who build a home or get pregnant without careful planning often find themselves in a difficult & sometime disastrous situation.
#2 In both circumstances you’re going to put some money away before you start the process. Once again, those who don’t save enough money will most likely find themselves in a terrible situation.
#3 Is the most obviously analogy because both having a baby & building a house both take about 9 months.
#4 You’re going to get attached to it from the very beginning. Many people even become possessive. Sometimes to a point of ridiculousness.
#5 You’ll brag to all your friends & family.
#6 You show pictures of it before it’s done, posting them to all your social media sites.
#7 Both processes are really exciting at first, but as the months drags on, it often starts to get old. Sometimes you get a little grumpy & other times, flat out angry. Many people even become physically ill during these processes.
#8 You dream & visualize what your home or baby will look like, but really, you never know what you’re going to get until the cycle has been completed.
#9 I’ve kind of already mentioned this, but near the end especially, you just want to be done with it.
#10 Once the process is completed, you really don’t care about how sick you felt or how painful the whole thing was. You’re just so grateful to be done & excited for this new, wonderful addition to your life.
Rather you’re building a home or having a baby, it will change your life forever & for the better. A home, just like a baby will deeply enrich your life. You’ll treat it with care, decorate it, brag about it & show it off to all your friends. Now, I know this analogy isn’t perfect, but hopefully it helped or at least you were amused.
