Sky News Washington Correspondent Annelise Nielsen says the formalities have continued from US President Donald Trump’s inauguration as he attended a traditional prayer service.
Washington National Cathedral's Mariann Edgar Budde urged Mr Trump to have “mercy” on marginalised groups in the US who fear for their lives, including LGBT people and illegal migrants.
"The sermon really could be described ... as quite a lecture for the incoming administration,” Ms Nielsen said.
“What’s really funny is just watching their live reactions to it.”
