We really took our time on the Annapurna Circuit Trek and discovered some villages that where absolute gems. We loved staying a few days to see the shepherds herding out their yak and mountain goats, the ploughing of fields and harvesting of crops. Spiritual traditions still run strong in many of the less frequented villages of the Annapurna Circuit Trek and the ancient Buddhist monasteries and ceremonies are still a central part of life. Prayer flags flapping in the wind beneath giant snow capped mountains send good wishes to the world and one is reminded of a deeper dimension to life. Although this is a very popular trek, many villages of Manang and Lower Mustang still retain their charm. Trekking groups tend stay in the same main villages, but stop a village before or a village after and one can still discover the old ways of the Himalayas. Most trekkers jump onto a bus at Muktinath after crossing the mighty Thorong La pass, but if one has an extra day or two some of the best villages of the whole circuit trek lie in the Muktinath valley, Jhong, Jarkot and Lubra. If you ever get the chance to walk the Annapurna Circuit trek, don’t miss the alternative route between Ngawal and Braga, taking the high route above Julu village. A steep climb to the plateau, but so worth it. For now, we hope you relax and enjoy the journey with us via our silent hiking film.
