Wonderful aerial views of the Shubenacadie River during a period of extreme tides, including watching many inflatable Zodiac boats having exciting fun in large standing waves on the river. This river flows into the Bay of Fundy, which has the highest ocean tides in the world. At high tide the ocean water flows up river and produces a wave at the front of the tidal flow called the Tidal Bore that moves slowly up the river. At low tide there are many sandbars in the river, but as the tidal flow moves inland and covers the sandbars it creates large standing waves that are great fun to ride over in the inflatable boats and is called Tidal Bore Rafting. For more information on Tidal Bore Rafting see: https://www.novascotia.com/things-to-...
There is a Fundy Tidal Interpretive Centre located about 10 km upstream from the mouth of the river. It has a viewing platform extending out over the river on piers of an old railway bridge, where people watch the tidal bore pass heading upstream. For more information on the
Fundy Tidal Interpretive Centre see https://www.easthants.ca/explore/fund...
I made four flights of my drone from near the Interpretive Centre.
00:07 Flight 1: Waiting for the passing of the Tidal Bore.
The passage of Tidal Bore past the Centre was about 20 minutes later than predicted. During that time I made my first flight and obtained views of the river at low water levels with exposed sandbars. This included views of the small Five Mile River (almost empty of water) that flows into the Shubenacadie River beside the road traffic bridge.
02:18 Flight 2: Tidal Bore wave approaching.
When I spotted the Tidal Bore approaching, I flew my drone, following the Tidal Bore upstream as it flowed over the exposed sandbars.
03:30 Flight 3: Views of the Tidal Bore rafting.
When the sandbars were covered in a significant depth of water, the strong tidal flows, still moving upstream over the sandbars, made large standing waves. The Zodiac boats loaded up and headed out to make multiple exciting runs over the large standing waves.
05:39 Flight 4: About 75 minutes after the passage of the Tidal Bore.
At this time many of the boats had moved farther upstream following the tidal bore. The water level in the river was perhaps up to 3 metres higher and there was still a strong tidal current flowing upriver. The small Five Mile River normally flowing into the Shubenacadie River was filling up with water. Near the end of the video there is a view of the Fundy Tidal Interpretive Centre building.
Filmed in 4K, 30 fps and auto settings with my DJI Mini 3 Pro camera drone on September 30, 2023. Edited with CyberLink PowerDirector 20.

Many people ask about the "strange" sound in the title clip of my video. It is the call of the Common Loon (or Great Northern Diver), a bird that inhabits our lakes and I sometimes hear and see flying over our home. For more information see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_....
