For your mix, the goal is to focus on percussion, oud, guembri, and desert guitar textures rather than vocal songs.

Gnawa music is a spiritual musical tradition from Morocco rooted in West African heritage, Sufi ritual, and centuries of cultural exchange across the Sahara. The music is traditionally led by master musicians known as Maâlems, who guide ceremonial performances built on hypnotic rhythm and trance-like repetition.

The lineage of Maâlem Mahmoud Guinia and his son Maalem Houssam Guinia reflects this generational tradition, where musical knowledge, spiritual practice, and rhythmic language are passed down through family and apprenticeship.
