What's it like to find a place to live in Boston in September? Imagine competing with an annual influx of more than 160,000 university students in a region where occupancy levels - and rents - are already sky-high.
This story was first posted in Sept 2023 and - in August of 2024 - we checked the latest data from the Mayor's Office of Housing. No surprise: it shows off-campus students continue to squeeze Boston's rental market. More than 40% of students still live off campus and new dorm construction has not kept up with a growing number of undergraduate and graduate students.
