For 60 years, Sarlettes Music has been a Main Street Morris institution specializing in school music, band instruments, accessories and repair. Postcards tells the story of how the business got started and is still thriving after all these years due to a network of vital relationships with rural community schools.
Courageous heARTS is a youth-led nonprofit art studio in Minneapolis with a mission to co-create experiences with young people by offering a safe space to help heal and empower through art, community building and leadership development. Postcards interviews Lindsay Walz, of Lake Lillian, founder of Courageous heARTS, and learns how Walz uses art to deal with her near-death experience in the 2007 I-35W bridge collapse and how she came about founding Courageous heARTS.
Artist Norma Refsal has been teaching her Sámi-inspired bracelet class for several years at the Milan Village Arts School. The Sámi are an indigenous people who have traditionally resided near the Arctic Circle in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. Reindeer husbandry is large part of their livelihood. Postcards shows how Refsal helps her students create their own traditional-style bracelet from reindeer leather, naturally shed reindeer antler and pewter thread.
