Taking my family to Autun

In this video I celebrate my birthday with my mom and dad and my American uncle and aunt. We went to the small city of Autun where I showed them the ancient Roman sites. I hope you like coming along with us!

Recipe for the lemon cake:

Ingredients:

200g butter
190g white sugar
10g vanilla sugar (or 200g white sugar and 1 tsp vanilla flavor)
200g all purpose flour
50g almond flour
4 eggs
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
75g almonds
pinch of salt
zest of one small lemon and 3 tbsp of the juice
125g icing sugar
edible flour petals and a handful of flaked almonds for decorating


Method:

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature. Preheat the oven to 180 Celsius.
Mix the butter with the white sugar with a handheld mixer until soft and creamy. This takes a few minutes. Add the eggs one by one and make sure each egg is incorporated before you add the next one. Add the lemon zest. Sift the all purpose flour with the baking powder and mix in using a wooden spoon. Add the salt. Chop the almonds and add the almond flour and stir to combine.
Grease a 27cm cake tin and add the batter. Bake for about 40 minutes. Test to see if the cake is done by sticking a toothpick in the cake. If it comes out clean the cake is cooked. If it comes out dirty allow the cake to cook a little more. Once the cake is done, take it out of the oven and let it sit on the counter in the tin for a few minutes before taking it out and transferring it to a cooling rack.
Let the cake cool down completely.
Mix 3 tablespoons of lemon juice with 125g icing sugar until you have a sticky and relatively thick consistency. Add it on top of the cake and decorate with the flower petals and roasted almond flakes.
