This cinematic restoration brings Britain’s first dedicated anti-aircraft gun back to life. Born in the desperate days of 1914, it became the backbone of home defense for nearly 30 years.

The Zeppelin Killer:
When German Zeppelins began bombing England in WWI, existing field guns couldn't shoot high enough to hit them. The Navy adapted a 3-inch gun, creating a weapon that could fire 16-18 rounds per minute up to 23,000 feet. It was this gun that forced German airships to fly higher and eventually stopped the daylight raids over London.

Two Wars, One Gun:
Amazingly, the 3-inch 20 cwt was still in service when WWII began in 1939. Though it was being replaced by the larger 3.7-inch gun, hundreds defended British cities during the Blitz, and it continued to serve on submarines and destroyers until the end of the war.
