Easy, nice humanism is too weak to confront the evil in the world. If we push for character building or teach ethics apart from prayer, we will not have the spiritual resources needed to overcome crisis and darkness. Christian educators need to devote time to the more scandalous practices of contemplation, asceticism, memento mori and others that we might not merely educate good leaders but cultivate Saints.
