Diamond Lake - Hessie High Route

Описание: Part one of our 2021 Indian Peaks Wilderness tour. On this outing we went to Diamond Lake via the Hessie Trailhead, dubbing this as, the Hessie High Route. The traditional approach to Diamond Lake is done from the 4th of July Trailhead where hikers can shave half the distance driving up an old jeep road that is quite rough. The Hessie High Route starts lower and in an adjacent valley eventually crossing over treeline and the shoulder of DaBoxer Mountain before dropping you back down into Diamond Lake. This route is much more picturesque, and demanding! Water is not lacking here with lakes, waterfalls and creeks in abundance. Keep your eyes and ears open for wildlife as moose and elk thrive in the area. Bring a camera, you'll be traveling through beautiful alpine forests, across open meadows full of wildflowers and above treeline where commanding views of the surrounding peaks will stop you in your tracks.

Always arrive early, parking is in high demand at this very popular trailhead, a shuttle service has been created from the nearby Nederland high school as well. Most people are day hiking to Lost Lake, a worthy side trip given time, after which the trail crowd pretty much disappears and you'll find yourself hiking alone. Other destinations worth noting, Woodland Lake, Jasper Lake, Devil's Thumb Lake, King Lake and Bob and Betty Lakes.
