I got the infamous "Hood Open" warning so I decided to try this. It was a Saturday night and the dealership was closed so a little research online helped me find out how to remove it. Once I had it in my hand the rest was just common sense.
The Hood Latch Sensor is nothing more than a round stainless Steel Spring pressed up against a button. When the hood closes the button is pressed and the circuit is closed signaling that the hood is closed. Cleaning it was a free, easy to do and a great way to spend a Saturday night ;)
P.S. Make sure to pull the Stainless steel Spring up a little to bring it back to life. Judging from the way it is designed these sensors usually fail because the springs are not bouncing back like they used to. VERY easy to do.
