As an addendum to my discussion of American-Style Fruited Sour (timestamp 31:00):
I inquired with the powers-that-be at Cicerone for more clarification of that new style. The takeaways are as follows:
American-Style Fruited Sours are really just about the fruit and the sour (sometimes sweetness, too).
They're:
sour
fruited
lack an identifiable sour base style
They lack noticeable traits of sour base styles:
lack noticeable: earthy/funky aromas from Brettanomyces
lack noticeable: nail polish remover/sherry/Balsamic aromas from Acetobacter
lack noticeable: wood flavors (coconut, vanilla, clove, dill) from barrel aging
lack noticeable: salty taste common in a gose
