The federal government needs to abandon the Inland Rail Project, which is a hopeless infrastructure plan that will trash local farming assets, according to Sky News host Alan Jones.
The Inland Rail Project is Australia’s largest freight rail infrastructure project, comprising of 13 individual projects and spanning more than 1,700 kilometres.
Mr Jones said the project, as it is currently instituted, will impact hundreds of farmers.
"Now prior to the last election Anthony Albanese was red hot on this hopelessly political project," he said.
“The current route impacts more than 300 farm businesses. If you upgraded the existing infrastructure there is a 100-year-old rail corridor; this project would then not impact critical farming interests.
“As it is planned, it crosses the Castlereagh river floodplain. The rail line could be washed away. Or it could act as a levy bank and stop the flow of water across farming land.
"Instead of supporting regional development, towns are being cut off and farming assets are being trashed.
"Simply, everything that could be wrong with the project is wrong."
"Prior to the last election, Anthony Albanese was standing up for the farmers.
"Now he has gone silent."
