Juba, is the capital and largest city of South Sudan
The city is situated on the White Nile in the Central Equatoria State.
Juba is the world's newest capital city to be elevated.
It has an estimated population of 459,000 people and an area of 52 km².
It has an international airport and several banks branches and government offices.
The town is the headquarters of the University of Juba, founded in 1975.
Juba was established between 1920 and 1921 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in a small Bari village, also called Juba.
In 2005 it became the capital of the Autonomous Government of Southern Sudan.
This was after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement by the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the Government of Sudan.
It officially became the capital of South Sudan in 2011 after its independence 9 July 2011.
However, the South Sudanese government is planning to move the capital to Ramciel, in future.
