Should Humans Rule the World? Using Wolves to Connect with Nature | Doug Smith | TEDxBigSky

Описание: Humans have become the dominant species on the planet. The world belongs to us. What are we going to do with it? Respecting and having humility toward the natural world may help save it, or at least help us manage it. Using wolves as a vehicle to connect with the natural world, this talk is about growing up in nature where the idea of wildness took root on a beloved family camp, where a child imagined true wildness only with all the camp’s original inhabitants – wolves – even after they had been wiped out decades ago. This connection with nature, fueled by his father, led to a questioning about human dominance of nature through killing and subduing it, only in the end to lead him to wolves in Yellowstone National Park where wildness and nature should be respected and valued apart from humans – not something humans control or dominate. Senior Wildlife Biologist in Yellowstone National Park This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
