Aris’ Piano Level 1 Test Review
Hello,
Congratulations, Aris has passed his Level 1 Test. In addition to the pieces in the video, he has learned the following music theory concepts and terms:
Notes going up, down or the same.
How many counts in quarter, half, whole, eighth, dotted half notes and rests.
Alphabet note names
Find keys on keyboard
Level Test Video Analysis:
Scales:
Your Strengths:
Great work here. I can see that you know all the notes you need to be playing, as well as what fingers to use, and where the notes are on the piano. This is awesome work. That’s a lot of information to get into your head and into your fingers. I’m gad to see that you’re putting in the work to really grasp these ideas and put them into motion. Awesome job.
Where you can improve:
You have a lot of great knowledge here so what I would suggest is looking into your technique a bit more. By that i mean I’d like you to work on how your fingers hit the keys. Right now you play very flat fingered and I think that’s why not a lot of power transfers from your fingers to your keys. If you can learn to arch your fingers a bit more while you play, this will be a much better way to transfer energy from your fingers into the keys to create a stronger sound. Once you can get this technique going, it will allow your playing to greater reflect the knowledge you have.
Repertoire: Sweetly Sings The Donkey
Your Strengths:
Awesome work where. I really like that you are counting out loud. Being able to hold a count while you are playing is a difficult task that even my higher level students find incredibly difficult. Seeing you already becoming comfortable with this practice, in the level that you are in, is a great strength to have. Keeping that external count is the best way to develop a steady internal beat. And steady beat is something we are always trying to keep in mind when playing. Good work.
Where you can improve:
You have some very strong fundamentals going on so what I would suggest to improve your playing the most is to take your time with everything. If you slow down just a bit this will give you time to think about what comes next in your playing. It will also naturally create a smoother more connected performance with the slower tempo. Giving yourself more time to make your moves is always a great idea to keep in mind.
Free Choice: Ode To Joy
Your Strengths:
Great job on this as well. Again, it looks like you have a very good hold of your pitches and fingering. Something I really like about your playing right now is that your are constantly looking back at your music. Being able to keep your eyes on the page is a very strong skill to have developed. If you can learn to always watch your music, you will never get lost, and you will always know what the next thing is that’s going to happen. It’s even more impressive that you have this going at such an early stage in your playing. Wonderful work.
Where you can improve:
I only really have one suggestion for you on this and it’s something that you are already starting to work on. I think that really getting your steady beat going is what would benefit your playing the most in this positioning. You already have a good hold of your notes and fingering so getting that attached to a strong frame of steady beat will greatly strengthen and give connection to your over all sound. Remember that we are always looking for consistency in our playing and building a strong foundation of steady beat is a great step towards that goal.
Level 2 Goals:
In Level 2, you will begin playing your scales with your hands together, practicing with a metronome and introducing more bass clef parts to your songs.
