Описание: Vertebral artery dissection (VBD) occurs about 5/100k people per year - accounting for 25% of stroke under 55 years old. Although associated with fibromuscular dysplasia in 15% of cases, connective tissue diseases should also be considered. VBD usually begins in the foraminal (V2) or atlas loop (V3) segments. Most patients (77%) have ischemic symptoms: 10% TIA; and, 2/3 of all develop posterior circulation infarcts. Treatment includes anticoagulants (heparin followed by oral warfarin) and interventional radiologic procedures (clot retrieval, angioplasty, thrombolysis).
