Описание: SHORT HISTORY: DIOCESE OF TURA

The first Catholic missionaries to reside at Tura were Frs. A Piannazzy and L. Rocca back in 1933. From then on a number of European missionaries followed by South Indian Missionaries worked tirelessly to spread the Gospel in Garo Hills. Pope Paul VI raised Tura into a diocese on 7th April 1973 and Bo. Orestes Marenggo was the Apostolic Administrator. Initially the diocese had only four parishes namely Tura, Damra, Baghmara & Dalu.
on 8 Feb. 1979 St. Pope John Paul II relieved Bp. Marengo of the office of Apostolic Administrator and appointed Rev. George Mamalasary of the diocesan clergy as the first bishop of Tura. After his retirement Pope Benedict XVI appointed Bp. Andrew R. Marak as the new bishop of Tura. as the diocese grew both in size and number of faithful in the 2020 Fr. Jose Chirackal was appointed as Auxiliary bishop of Tura.
The growth of the Diocese of Tura in the last 50 years has been a great miracle with 47 parishes and more than three lakhs and fourty thousand faithful.
So let's praise and thank God for this great blessing forever and evermore.
