City of San Antonio: Autocar ACX Heil Command-SST Garbage Truck

Описание: With the prices of new trucks going up, the city of San Antonio has decided to purchase different trucks in an effort to have more money available to buy more trucks at a better cost. A brand new Autocar Python was costing the city over $400,000 so they decided to purchase two Commands to see if they liked them. Both Commands run out of the city’s SE yard so on the Saturday after MLK day, I ventured across town to film one. The driver thinks the truck is okay but his biggest complaint is that it has too many buttons and features. The city got these last summer so the driver has gotten used to the truck and he runs it really well. Both Commands run regular routes with assigned drivers and only a handful of people actually know how to operate them.

After speaking with the fleet manager, the city will now be buying trucks that are the most cost effective instead of buying trucks that drivers/mechanics prefer. They also want to be able to rely on multiple manufacturers for parts/trucks instead of having to depend on one. As for Heil, the city does not plan to buy more Commands and they will be buying less Pythons. The city likes the Command but because of maintenance and the fact that Heil has just gotten too expensive, they don’t have plans to get more of these. The city will be buying more variety for their fleet in the coming months which will be really awesome to see!
