http://irshelpcolorado.com/tax-help-c... Do you need an IRS Lien Release?
An IRS lien release will occur 30 days after you settle your IRS debt. The IRS likes you to pay your bill in full, but if you can't do that, you do have options.
A lien is a tool that the IRS uses to collect back taxes. If you owe them money and can't or won't pay, they will often use a legal tool called a lien. A lien basically says, "any profits from the sale of this property go to the IRS first to pay the tax bill."
The lien will usually only be released once the debt with the IRS is settled.
In order to settle your debt with the IRS, you can take advantage of any one of 6 different methods that are available. The method you choose should give you the lowest payback possible in order to settle your debt.
For some people this means making payments, for others it means declaring bankruptcy -- but you should not do this without professional advice!
When you decide on the method that is best for you to pay your IRS debt, it is important to consult with a professional tax advisor. This gives you the best position with which to negotiate, because the professional tax advisor will know the law, and can help you determine which option is right for you.
