Border wall construction in the San Rafael Valley — one of Arizona’s last unwalled borderlands — is renewing concerns about its impact on local water resources. Conservation groups say wall projects during President Donald Trump’s first term drained water tables at the San Bernardino National Wildlife Refuge, while the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says a decline was already in progress. Both agree there is no data showing how construction affected the water table.
AZPM speaks with conservationists and a local rancher about these concerns as the federal government waives all environmental laws to expedite new border wall construction.
