In this video, fostering social workers and foster carers explain how matching works and why it is such an important part of fostering. Matching is about far more than having a spare bedroom, it is about understanding children, families and what will help a child feel safe, settled and supported.
Fostering social workers talk about how they look carefully at a child or young person’s needs, experiences, routines and relationships. They consider things like school, location, siblings, identity, health and emotional wellbeing when thinking about the right family for a child.
Foster carers then share what matching looks like from their point of view. They talk about the conversations they have with their social worker, the questions they ask, and how important it is to be honest about what feels right for them and their family. Matching is a two way process, and foster carers always have a voice.
Hull Fostering believes in thoughtful, child focused matching. We do not expect foster carers to say yes to every situation. Instead, we work together to make decisions that give children the best chance of stability and a positive experience in foster care.
Hull Fostering is the fostering service for Hull City Council. We are not for profit and always focused on what is right for children and young people.
