There is no "get to know ya" clause in the law. The PreK to Kindergarten transition should start NOW

"I need a little understanding about how transitioning works from pre-k drop in services to K.

My daughter will start K in August. She currently receives speech, OT, and SPED as a weekly drop in at the elem school.
Her IEP doesn’t expire until the beginning of September, so the preschool case manager wrote in some accommodations into her current IEP to help handle that gap. These accommodations seem reasonable and responsive for the most part for my daughter’s needs.

I was told there would be a transition meeting, but it hasn’t been schedule yet. I have already expressed a desire to have the IEP amended to include her RBT to be there the first two weeks of school. That is in progress of being worked on.

All that said, two questions:
what should this transition look like?
Why couldn’t her IEP be renewed early? Is there a benefit to leaving it in September since there are accommodations written in?
We’ve had an extremely positive and responsive relationship with this school system so far, so I just want to make sure my expectations are reasonable.

The transition from preschool to Kindergarten is huge and the transition should have started by now with a new IEP, updated evaluations (if necessary) and discussions on potential need for summer services to acclimate to new school, classroom and meet the teacher. The District should presume competence and not take a "wait and fail" approach before responding.... so many mistakes are unnecessarily made by schools failing to do basic work in understanding a child prior to their key transition points. Far too many schools use the excuse of the need to "get to know ya" before putting a plan together or safety net services and supports. There is no "get to know ya" clause in the law. This is what thorough evaluations are for that include observations.
