Manyatta Homeschooling is designed to reach out-of-school girls in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs)—regions that cover 89% of the country yet continue to record some of the lowest development indicators nationally.
Targeting girls in counties like Samburu, where harmful cultural practices such as beading, early marriage, and FGM/C (with a prevalence of 76%) remain widespread, the program seeks to disrupt generational cycles of exclusion.
Many of these girls enter formal education late—some as preteens, teenagers, or even in their twenties—due to systemic poverty, cultural barriers, and lack of infrastructure.
Through Manyatta Homeschooling, Akili Dada creates safe, flexible learning spaces within communities. The program focuses on:
✅Literacy and numeracy
✅Building self-confidence and voice
✅Teaching girls how to articulate their lived experiences
This is more than an education program—it's a pathway to dignity, rights, and hope for some of the most marginalized girls in Kenya.
