Road 570 Snaefellsnes first opening day | F-roads Iceland 4K

Описание: We drove road 570, or Jökulshálsvegur on Snæfellsnes peninsula on the first summer opening day in mid-July. And it was a huge adventure!

Have you ever wondered what "impassable" means in Iceland and why is this sign on some roads even in July?
Well, thanks to this experience we knew very well :)

Icelandic road administration opened the road just an hour before our drive. We met very helpful locals who told us we should be safe to pass with our car. They said: "for you it's OK". Although there are no river crossings on 570 and the road is not even marked an F-road, it's a mountainous road where snow may hold for the long time. This was exactly the case this year even in mid-July. We had to pass several snowfields and even 3 meter (10 feet) tall snow tunnels! Large 4x4 car was totally necessary at this time.
