Climber recovers after 600-foot rescue at Red Rock: 'I am ecstatic that I am still here'

Описание: A 50-year-old climber is recovering in a Las Vegas hospital after falling up to 50 feet and dangling hundreds of feet above the ground during a rescue at Red Rock Canyon.

Jarred Jackman, who splits his time between Washington state and Las Vegas, was attempting the route “Dream Safari” on Dark Shadows Wall in the Pine Creek area on February 28 when he fell, struck his head, and was left suspended roughly 600 feet above the canyon floor.

“How are you feeling?” he was asked Friday by News 3’s Cristen Drummond in an exclusive interview from his hospital room at University Medical Center. “Fantastic,” Jackman replied.

The upbeat answer comes despite the metal halo brace bolted to his skull to stabilize fractures in his spine. Jackman suffered breaks to his C4, C5, and C6 vertebrae and a tear in his carotid artery, injuries doctors said could have been far worse.
