Ultimate ADOM: Caverns of Chaos is a return to a more traditional roguelike experience but with some role playing elements thrown in, as well as some quality of life improvements.

The game starts you off by letting you pick one of four predefined classes such as the Alynna the High Elven Archer, Dworjalf the Mountain Dwarven Fighter, and etc. The game will add in many new classes as part of its planned roadmap, such as the Barbarian and Necromancer. If a predefined character is not your cup of tea, you can create your own. Each class has different stats, equipment, and alignments. The combat system is dice based, so players familiar to such systems should feel right at home. Expect to miss a lot of hits if RNG is not with you.

After picking your character, the game drops you off immediately into the dungeon and you start playing. The main goal is to make it to the next level of the dungeon by reaching the staircase, as well as search for treasure in the hopes of finding better equipment or fighting enemies to gain experience points and level up.

The game has a lot of skills to master, status effects to worry about, and mechanics that have a lot of depth behind them. The future updates will bring in a hunger and chaos system, magic, npc quests, and much more so there will be a lot more content in the game. Along with content updates, there are quality of life improvements such as being able to use your actions from a wheel interface, so you don't have to memorize all the keybindings. The game also lets you do a sort of fast travel on the map screen so you don't waste time backtracking when exploring.

Overall, Ultimate ADOM looks like a pretty promising rogue like. The game is solid enough as is and the developers have a lot of planned features that will add a lot of replayability to the game. The quality of life changes take away some of the unnecessary tediousness while maintaining the difficulty level. The game is easy enough to get into but pretty challenging to master. It may appeal to fans of more traditional roguelikes.
