Cleveland weather: Lingering lake effect snow on Saturday with colder temps in the mid 20s

lake effect snow will take over as the main forecast concern with on-and-off snow and squalls the rest of the day and into Saturday in the primary and secondary snowbelts with our northwest flow. Area wide, expect 2-4 inches of snowfall through the weekend. Lake effect could produce upwards to 3-6 inches for the metro by Saturday. Upwards to 8-12 inches in the primary by Saturday night.

In terms of snowfall, you can see several pockets of heavier snow expected where those bands of heavier lake snow persist.

Attention then turns toward a major winter storm that will be developing out west and will be arriving in the Ohio Valley by Sunday night and Monday morning. As of now, the main swath of heavy accumulating snow is expected to be mainly south through Monday.

This system will cause big time impacts to those traveling back home from the holiday break around the US. An ice storm will stretch from southern Illinois into Kentucky with that heavy band of snow from central Illinois into Indiana and Ohio.
