1999 Okuma Crown CNC lathe running A-2 tool steel that is heat treated to 58Rc. I have tolerances of +/-.0003” from the face to the shoulder, and it has to be paralell within .0005”. I also have 2 gage diameters that are +/-.0008” along the angle. If a CNC lathe is taken care of, and the tooling and process is correct, it is more than capable of holding tight tolerances consistently.
I am using a Ceramic insert to leave .003” stock on the diameter, and .001” on the faces for the finish tool. I am finishing with a .008 nose radius insert. This keeps the tool pressure to a minimum, and allows a free cutting finish pass to maintain sizes consistently and accurately.
I do not talk much, and do not like to be in front of the camera, so if this is something you enjoy and want me to do more please let me know in the comments below.
