S. Korea's e-learning emerges as world-class industry

The E-learning system allows students to take online courses regardless of space and time. South Korea boasts a world-class e-learning system. E-learners and industry related people gathered in at an event to share their experiences with participants from other countries and discuss ways to provide fair education opportunities to students. We have more in our next report.

Like writing on a blackboard, you can freely write and draw on this computer screen. You can use an eraser and enlargen your screen. As it can record and save the program, you can retrieve your designed note at anytime. As such advanced e-learning products are gaining popularity, companies are competing to get ahead in the newly emerging market.

Interview- Lee Hyun-woo, e-learning product manufacturer
As this product can (adjust) in size and has the multi-touch function, it is the best product to establish the 'smart learning' system in schools and colleges.

The 2012 E-Learning Korea was held to share the accomplishments of South Korea's e-learning industry and discuss ways for further development. E-learning includes all forms of electronically supported education made available regardless of time and place.

This event was held to figure out the current status of the e-learning industry in South Korea as well as other countries and to get insight on its future development.

This event has three themes: smart school, smart home and smart work. In this smart work themed exhibition, you can envision the future of e-learning and the office environment. Under a simulated e-learning environment, you can repeatedly practice welding, classify mail and learn how to repair a car.

I've heard words such as "simulated reality" or "augmented reality," but never saw it with my eyes. Seeing these contents as an education major, I think implementing them would greatly help our education.

Organizers said they will make government-level efforts to leg up South Korea's e-learning industry and become the world leader in this emerging market.

시간과 장소에 구애받지 않고 학습이 가능한 이러닝 시스템. 특히 한국의 스마트러닝은 세계 최고수준이라고 해도 과언이 아닌데요. 다양한 경험들을 세계 여러나라와 공유하고, 교육정보 격차를 해소하기 위한 장이 마련됐습니다. 이수민 기자가 취재했습니다.

녹화와 저장이 가능해 화면에 필기한 내용을 언제 어디서든 학습에 활용할 수도 있습니다.

이렇게 편의와 기능을 강조한 이러닝 제품들의 인기가 높아지면서 그 경쟁도 치열해지고 있습니다.

사이즈와 멀티터치 기능이 가능한 제품이기 때문에 현재 대학시장이나 초•중•고 스마트러닝 구축에 있어서 가장 큰 효과를 볼 수 있는 제품이라고 생각합니다.

지난 12일 우리나라의 이러닝 성과공유와 국가 브랜드화를 위한 '2012 이러닝 코리아'가 열렸습니다.

이러닝이란 정보통신기술을 이용하여 시간과 장소에 상관없이 수준별 교수ㆍ학습이 가능한 교육활동을 말합니다.

지금 우리나라와 같은 수준에 있는 선진국들과의 이러닝의 실태를 파악해보고, 이러닝이 앞으로 어떻게 발전해 나갈 것인지 그 방향을 가늠해보는 행사입니다.

이번 행사는 '스마트 스쿨, 스마트 홈, 스마트 워크'로 나뉘어 구성됐습니다.

특히 스마트 워크 테마관에서는 이러닝을 활용한 미래 산업 현장과 오피스 환경을 만나볼 수 있습니다.

가상 환경에서 반복적으로 용접 훈련도 하고, 우편물 분류작업은 물론 자동차정비 훈련까지 가능합니다.

가상현실이나 증강현실이라는 말은 일상생활에서 많이 들어보긴 했지만 실제로 본 적은 없었는데 콘텐츠를 보다보니 교육을 전공하는 사람으로서 교육에 적용이 되면 굉장히 많은 도움이 될 것 같고...


관계자들은 이번 행사를 통해 한국이 국제사회에서 스마트러닝 선도국가로서의 위상을 더욱 높일 수 있도록 정부 차원의 노력을 결집해 나갈 것이라고 말했습니다.
