When Felt Instrument reached out asking me if I would be interested in trying their new filter, I immediately said "Send it over!".
For a long time I was obsessed by their aesthetic and wanted to try some of their plugins, so I asked to send Helenko as well.

As a "mostly hardware" guy, when I use plugins I am looking for an experience that is somehow similar to the interaction I would have with a piece of equipment. I don't like too many controls or under-the-hoods tweaking. Just give me the right vibe and I will be happy.
I think that Felt mission is to offer producers a palette of beautiful sounds and few powerful way to tweak the sound in a musical way: they are selling a mood, not just software.

Rysy, modeled after the W49 filter and tube preamp made in the '50, is a smooth and beautiful sounding unit, an instant way to add that certain vibe to your sounds. While it has very simple controls, it shines when automated and I love using the LFO to make the sounds move.
Helenko is modeled after a 1930 Celesta made by Jenko, and it is surprisingly versatile. The sound of it is certainly melancholic and really suits my likings.

In this video I will go through a simple track I made using mostly the two Felt plugins, and I will show how I used automation to get the most out of them.
As usual my approach revolves around simplicity: using very little, I want to create a mood and a story.
