New Costume Reveal!

It's always a beautiful moment for me to finally finish making a costume then get to take it for a proper test run. I admittedly don't love the entire process of making my own costumes because it's a lot of work, time, and money for quality materials. It's tedious and it doesn't always goes as planned, but the end result of getting to dance in something that I have designed and made to be what I wanted/needed for my dancing is well worth it to me in the end. It is a long game, like a lot of things. You only get to that end result by continuing to show up, even when you are struggling to.

It has also helped further my appreciation and gave me expanded insight of what goes into making art in various mediums.

And since someone always asks, I do not make costumes to sell and I don't see that ever changing. I don't know if I am a slow sewist (Maybe I am?!? I think I probably am) But my costumes usually take me an average of 40 hours minimum (some have been much longer, I am very bad at keeping track after a certain point), then factor in the cost of materials etc, there is no way anything I made would be "affordable", nevermind not having the time.  I will say I have never come across an "overpriced" bellydance costume. In fact compared to other dance genres bellydance costuming is typically wildly well priced for what you get. So if you have found a costume vendor you love,  remember to show your appreciation for their work. If you haven't found one you love yet, maybe thats a sign to try learning to make your own costumes yourself. You might not enjoy it, or you might find you really enjoy, but you won't know unless you try :)
