The French Broad is one of the oldest rivers in the world. It is also among the most popular rivers for kayaking, rafting & recreation in the southeast. Located northwest of Asheville, NC Section 9 is where many local paddlers get their start & hone their craft. The upper section is a steady diet of Class II-III rapids while more experienced boaters can paddle past the traditional take out & run a few Class IV's near Hot Springs. FB9 has something for everyone.
This was easily the most challenging guide to make yet. With all the splits around the islands it required many hikes upstream to the tops of rapids to run the opposite side in order to get (most) of the lines. Hope this will help you or a beginner the next time you are headed to the French Broad.
