I have seen many people make all sorts of contraptions to protect their pawpaw from the sun in those first three years, but these contraptions also end up sheltering all sorts of critters, whether insects or animals, which end up using the tender pawpaw saplings as food, WHILE THEY RECEIVE PROTECTION FROM PREDITORS FROM THE SKY! The PAWPAWS DON'T STAND A CHANCE! Imitate nature to give them the shade they need, to protect their roots and stems from foragers, and to allow them to eventually have the full sun they need!
