প্রায় ২ কিলোমিটার সরু খাল খনন করে ৮শ বিঘা জমিতে চাষাবাদের নিশ্চয়তা পেল ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া সদরের ৩টি ইউনিয়নের কৃষক। কৃষি বিভাগ বলছে, জলাবদ্ধতা নিরসনের ফলে বছরে প্রায় ১২শ মেট্রিকটন বাড়তি ফসল উৎপাদন সম্ভব হবে। তবে, এই খননের কারণে কিছু ঘরবাড়ি এবং রাস্তাঘাট ভাঙ্গনের মুখে পড়তে পারে বলে উদ্বেগ জানিয়েছে স্থানীয়রা।

Farmers of 3 Unions of Brahmanbaria Sadar got assurance of cultivation on 800 bigha land by digging a narrow canal of about 2 km. The Agriculture Department says that as a result of the elimination of waterlogging, it will be possible to produce about 1200 metric tons of additional crops annually. However, locals are concerned that some houses and roads may collapse due to this excavation.
