Welcome to week #2 of Unified Fire Authority's Academy for recruit class #53. This week was exciting as we turned the HEAT up on them! The recruits had a thorough lecture from our Training Chief on the importance of building construction, they then witnessed firsthand how different methods of construction hold up under real fire conditions. This was the recruits first time in full PPE while in 500-800 degree temps. They also found a new appreciation for how much hose our engines carry during our “Endless Hose Day”, and they spent hours focusing on hose management. There were many early mornings and long nights as there simply isn’t enough time in the day to practice the basics as they play a vital role in firefighter safety and survival.
