The National Institute of Health in Islamabad, along with the World Health Organization, marked World Ant*microbial Res*stance Awareness Week with an AMR Awareness Walk. Officials from WHO, NIH, partner agenc*es, and students gathered to highlight the urgency of antim*crobial res*stance, a threat responsible for thousands of preventable de@ths each year in Pakistan.
The WHO Country Director said AMR is not a distant issue, noting that Pakistan records nearly 40,000 de@ths annually directly linked to drug-res*stant infect*ons. He also highlighted Pakistan’s major achievement: the launch of the region’s first national Priority Pathogen List, developed jointly by NIH and WHO.
Participants underscored that responsible antib*otic use, improved infection control, and strengthened surve*llance are essential to protect present and future generations.
